The Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students came into effect on 31 March, 2002, and was further revised in 2003. The aim of this research project is to provide a detailed, inclusive research-based evaluation of all aspects of the Code, based on questionnaire surveys of institutions and students and a series of case studies.

First of all a big thank you to the institutions who have already returned their survey forms and others who have otherwise made contact with us regarding the survey. Although we have only just started to collate the surveys we have already received some very valuable and interesting feedback from staff working with the Code. We would love to hear from everyone!

Alongside the survey of institutions, we are also running a web survey, giving international students the chance to share their experiences of studying in New Zealand. The web survey is open all to all international students in New Zealand aged over 14 years.

Background to the Project

F) j i* d# Y新西兰中文网，新西兰华人社区，提供新西兰每日新闻，酸甜苦辣，四海同心，房屋出租，招聘广场，交友征婚，留学移民 ，娱乐八卦All institutions in New Zealand which enrol international students must adhere to the mandatory Code of Practice. The aim of the Code is the encourage institutions to enforce good practice and ensure quality outcomes for all students. The Christchurch College of Education, an institution delivering tertiary education, education support services and research outputs, has been contracted by the Ministry of Education to undertake this evaluation of the Code. The main question in this evaluation is whether the Code of Practice provides an effective framework for the pastoral care of international students.

There are five areas that will be examined: how institutions are meeting the code requirements, students’ knowledge and experience of the code, the effect of the 2003 revisions to the Code document, the pastoral care of students who may not be covered by the Code and a consideration of potential areas of change, from the point of view of participants.
